Your christmas party survival guide
Christmas parties can be a test of personal strength, it is after all the time to eat, drink and be merry. The thought of temptation and food pushers might make you think twice about attending, which shouldn't be the case. The good news is that you can still enjoy a low carb way of living, without having to miss out on Christmas parties.
Here are some survival tips for getting through the Christmas party season:
Don't be afraid to say 'no'
The test of personal strength is hard enough without having family or friends telling you to “just have a little bit, it won’t hurt.” Many of us might worry about appearing rude by saying no, but there are a few ways you can make a ‘no’ sound positive. You could say something along of the lines of “the food looks really delicious, but I’m doing really well at controlling my blood sugars at the moment and don’t want to break my success.”
Be alcohol-wise
Traditional drinks such as mulled wine and eggnog can often be high in carbs, so may affect your blood sugar or weight loss goals. Stick to lower carb alternatives such as wine and spirits with sugar-free mixer. You can find out about the carb content in different types of wine in our low carb guide to alcohol.
Set realistic goals
Christmas is the time for celebration and it can be difficult to not feel disheartened if you don’t achieve the same goals you set yourself for the rest of the year. Instead, you might want to look at giving yourself some leeway setting more realistic goals which you know will be more achievable. This could be maintaining your weight or keep your blood sugars stable for example.
