"I often pinch myself that I can eat like this and still be so healthy"

"I often pinch myself that I can eat like this and still be so healthy"

Michelle Gladden was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in May 2015 with a HbA1c of 97 mmol/mol (11%). At the time she weighed 85kg (13st 6 lbs) and was straight away put on metformin.

No stranger to losing and gaining weight, Michelle resorted to her usual low calorie and low-fat diet, alongside lots of exercise.

“My initial success was short-lived, despite me sticking to my low-fat diet, exercise regime and feeling permanently hungry. Subsequently over the next few diabetic checks my HbA1c was increasing and I was slowly getting heavier – despite sticking to official dietary advice.”

Michelle found the Low Carb Program in September 2017 and was shocked at how she could eat foods such as cream, cheese and eggs and still lose weight.

“By May 2018 my HbA1c was down to 30 mmol/mol (4.9%) and by July 2018 my weight was down to 57kg (8st 13 lbs) and I had a BMI of 20.”

Michelle saw changes in not only her physical health but also her mental health. Her mind is clearer, and its given her confidence a boost.

“It’s been so much easier having access to so much up to date dietary information, advice and support when I needed it. A bit like having your hand held on the journey and getting a hug and wise advice when its needed.”
