4 easy ways to shift your mindset and stay motivated

Published on 12th Jun, 2022

It’s normal for most of us to lose motivation from time to time, and it can sometimes feel a struggle to get back into the swing of things.

Staying motivated is key to committing to long-term changes and you’re more likely to see sustainable results when you keep on track.

Here are 4 easy ways to shift your mindset when you can feel yourself slipping:

Check in with your goals

Why did you begin this journey in the first place? Sometimes we can forget our reasons ‘why’ when we’re going through a difficult period. Remember to check in with your goals from time to time to help you stay motivated. If you find that your goals seem unrealistic, you might want to break them down into smaller, more attainable goals that fit in with your lifestyle. Follow our SMART goals guide for some more information how to create realistic, achievable goals.

Celebrate small accomplishments

A lot of the time we don’t give ourselves credit for the small things we accomplish, such as exercising when we didn’t feel like it or keeping within our carb target for the week. No matter how small they might seem, celebrating small accomplishments is just as important as celebrating bigger achievements to boost your motivation.

Look at your progress

Progress can vary from person to person, some of us may have seen results quickly and then plateaued or we might be struggling to see any results at all. It’s worth remembering however that weight loss is just one indicator of progress and there are many other measures to keep track of such as your mood, energy levels and sleep quality. Check out our article on ‘3 signs you’ve made progress – even if the scales haven’t budged’ for some more examples and how to track these changes.

Read success stories

Reading the stories of others, whether they’ve seen a transformational weight loss or achieved remission can be highly motivating. This is especially so if the person has shared a similar experience to yourself. Reading some of our success stories might be just what it takes to shift your mindset and you’re bound to find someone who’s been in a similar position.
